A Haitian judge has indicted 51 people for their roles in the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, including his wife, Martine Moïse, who is accused of being an accomplice, despite being seriously wounded in the attack. Instead, it says that she and other accomplices gave statements that were contradicted by other witnesses, suggesting that they were complicit in the killing. The indictment also cites one of the main defendants in the case in custody in Haiti, who claimed that Mrs. Moïse was plotting with others to take over the presidency. The accusations echo those contained in a criminal complaint filed by a Haitian prosecutor and submitted to Mr. Voltaire. The official charge against Mrs. Moïse is conspiracy to murder.

REUTERS/Sarah Meyssonnier/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 26 (Reuters) - Europe's biggest hotel group Accor on Thursday raised its core profit target for 2023 for the second time this year, citing positive business momentum in all of its markets after another strong post-pandemic summer. The sector continues to benefit from the leisure travel boom despite inflation and the resurgence of recession fears in Europe. It was also boosted by the Rugby World Cup, particularly in cities where hotel supply is more limited, such as Lille and Nantes, Accor said. The group now expects core earnings (EBITDA) of between 955 million euros and 985 million euros for 2023, up from a previous forecast of between 930 million euros and 970 million euros, which was already upgraded in July. It also raised its forecast for growth in RevPAR in 2023 and now expects it to slightly exceed 20%.

As companies reported their latest quarterly earnings in recent weeks, hiring, wages and head counts were popular topics as analysts quizzed executives about their plans. Others said that rising wages remained a worry for their bottom lines. And many still looking to hire said that attracting and retaining workers was difficult as the labor market remained robust. “You have to work extra to hire people and to keep people,” Andrew Watterson, the chief operating officer of Southwest Airlines, said on a call with analysts. Even so, the rate of workers quitting their jobs, a measure of workers’ confidence in their prospects and bargaining power, continued to fall in June, according to data released Tuesday.

The owners and operators of four nursing homes siphoned off more than $83 million in taxpayer funds and neglected residents, leading to injuries and at least one death, according to the New York State attorney general, Letitia James, who filed a lawsuit against the owners on Wednesday. “They put profit over people again and again and again while vulnerable New Yorkers were reduced to skeletons,” Ms. James said at a news conference on Wednesday, noting in an earlier statement that the co-owners of the nursing homes, Kenneth Rozenberg and Daryl Hagler, had turned the facilities into “moneymaking machines,” “leading to elderly residents and those with disabilities suffering unconscionable pain, neglect, degradation and even death.”The four nursing homes named in the lawsuit, filed after an investigation by the Office of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, are run by Centers Health Care, and include two in New York City, Holliswood Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Queens and Beth Abraham Center for Rehabilitation in the Bronx; as well as Martine Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in White Plains and Buffalo Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Buffalo.

In her first book, “Monstrous Intimacies,” Sharpe writes extensively on Walker’s work to reveal how society is programmed to default to racist narratives. The work in Sharpe’s office, like many of Walker’s famous prints and sculptures, is devoid of color. The more time I spend with Sharpe’s work, the more it inflects my ways of seeing the world. According to Sharpe, Blackness is anagrammatical, meaning that the structures that order language, thought and society become disordered — if not destroyed entirely — when they encounter Blackness. “Her work has shown that we, as Black people, are the foils of humanity,” Frank B. Wilderson III, author of “Afropessimism,” told me.

The idea of "quiet quitting" may not be anything new. Thierry Delaporte, CEO and managing director at IT company Wipro Limited, also sees quiet quitting as a chance for leaders to reflect on how they need to adjust to the changing labor force. The term quiet quitting was coined in 2022 on social media — with different definitions. People who were unable to resign or were unsuccessful in changing their work environment started asking questions, he said. Long term, it's not just about quiet quitting either, the Davos panel suggested.
